In addition to the strategic planning by the coordinators, rigorous training for the inaugural competition is ongoing for the Prison Service team members. Training is conducted via the Programmes Department of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, under the expertise of Ms. Johnson and her experienced ensemble of coaches. The competitors are excited, working diligently and looking forward to the actual competition.

The 1st Intercontinental Chess Championship for prisoners is the first of its kind and it is being hosted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Chicago, in collaboration with the International Chess Federation, as a part of its ‘Chess for Freedom’ project.
