Mozambican Chess Federation takes chess to prisons

For this purpose, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Maputo between the Mozambican Chess Federation and the National Penitentiary Service. It aims to spread the practice of chess through training inmates and prisons officials, first phase of the Special Maximum Security Penitentiary Establishment.

On the occasion, the President of the Mozambican Chess Federation, Milton Bottom, congratulated SERNAP (National penitentiary service) on embracing the initiative to introduce the sport to Penitentiary Establishments, a factor that could contribute to the process of rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates.

In turn, the General Director of SERNAP Brigadeiro António Maurice said that the initiative arises in a context in which the institution seeks partnerships that aim to support the rehabilitation and adequate reintegration of prisoners. He added that the implementation of the initiative will add value to the efforts undertaken by SERNAP.
